Arise Africa Women Symposium

Sports for Social Change Network (SSCN) hosted a symposium as a celebration of women’s month. The aim of this gathering was beyond discussion and to be one of the many catalysts to see sustainable change in Africa. As is a known fact that even amid progressive policies and action by international development agencies and the UN, the cause of women and girls is still an area for great concern.

The symposium focused on the following lectures:

Lecture 1

Policy, and moving from Policy to Action by Ms Ranjit Reddy, Department of Women, Youth and People living with disability in the Presidency South Africa.

Lecture 2

The role Sport for Peace and Development can play in advancing gender equality and combatting gender-based violence in society by Dr Lombe Mwambwa.

Lecture 3

Evidence in the field by Professor Cora Burnett

Lecture 4

The state of women and girls in Sport by Ms Lwandile Simelane.

The symposium concluded with a panel dialogue and interaction with the participants.
