There is emerging evidence that mental health promotion programs can help address South Africa’s mental health crisis by tackling stigma and supporting young people to develop the protective tools to cope with stress as it arises. In this endeavour, SOHK provides an innovative combination of pitch-side therapy from community based lay counsellors and life skills through rugby coaching to reach hundreds of young people with data showing that youth stay in school and show increased wellbeing.
